Why Leleshwa?
Leleshwa is more than a native plant, it is part of the Maasai community’s traditional way of life and a valuable resource for a sustainable future. Traditionally used for fuel, natural insect repellent, hygiene and other household purposes, Leleshwa also has potential for sustainable cultivation and value addition.
At Sekenani, we are working to protect Leleshwa from destructive harvesting while helping communities cultivate, sustainably harvest and process it into products that create new livelihood opportunities.
Community at the Centre
Our work is rooted in the people of Sekenani. We bring together women, youth and farmers, while valuing indigenous knowledge and community leadership to ensure that conservation and enterprise development create meaningful, lasting benefits for local households.

From Conservation to Enterprise
We connect conservation with opportunity by helping communities cultivate and sustainably harvest Leleshwa, process it into value-added products, and access markets. The resulting income supports household livelihoods while creating incentives to protect and restore the natural resources on which the enterprise depends.
